I Wouldn't Marry Russell Brand: Here's Why

Would you want to be married or dating Russell Brand? Despite his fame, fortune, and wit, I’m not so sure that I would. The actor/comedian is often crossing the lines of what’s appropriate behavior—remember where he put a Barbie Doll during a recent performance? But his latest stunt is worse. He recently snapped a pic of his super-hot wife Katy Perry without make up and posted it online.

We’ve all had bad hair days, and days where we stayed at home in our pajamas without make-up, but that doesn’t mean that we want the entire world to see what we really look like when no one is watching. The picture he posted is horrible—it’s obvious that she was strongly protesting a picture being taken, that she was maybe sick, or that she was maybe about to sneeze. (I had a lovely photo-booth picture taken of me for a passport when I was deathly ill. I keep it to remind myself never to appear in public with a cold if I can help it at all.)

Of course, the argument on Russell’s behalf is that women should have the right to see what celebrities look like so that they aren’t making unnecessary comparisons to stars who have been made-up, photographed, and photo-shopped by a series of professionals. But shouldn’t that be Katy’s decision? Shouldn’t she have a right to choose which make-up(less) picture she should use, if any?

Seriously, her husband isn’t known for having tremendous amounts of common sense.  (Not that most husbands are.) How would you feel if suddenly your brand-new husband (sorry for the bad pun, couldn’t resist) posted a picture like that of you for the world to see? I hear she’s getting ready to take his name—maybe she should seriously re-consider. What possible recourse does she have against the paparazzi when her own husband is the guilty party? (And what would she do if Russel posted nude pics of her? Especially since he’s already been proven to prefer showing her in an unflattering light.(

As this post observes, Katy is shown here in the picture with a furrowed brow and a couple of blemishes. I’m not objecting to the pimples or to the furrowed brow, but to the posting of the picture in general. Some girls freak when they are tagged on Facebook in an unflattering picture; this is a thousand times worse just because of the number of people who will see it.

Miss Delaware: Bald, Beautiful, and Ready to Rock the Miss America Pageant

“Bald and Beautiful” may normally be the type of slogan associated with guys who refuse to go to Hair Club for Men, but it could also be used for a current Miss America pageant entrant who suffers from Alopecia Areata, which is a condition that results in hair loss. Miss Delaware, Kayla Martell, is hoping to educate the public and raise awareness about her disease.

As a result of her Alopecia, Kayla Martell has amassed quite the wig collection; she told People Magazine that she had a Miss America wig, a soccer mom wig, a Miss Delaware wig, and an always-curly Shirley Temple wig.

Kayla woke up one day when she was just eleven years old “with drool on my cheek and a bald patch on my head.” Since then, she has lost most of the hair on her head, as well as the hair on her face—her eyebrows and eye lashes are gone as well.  As devastating as that would have been to most girls, Kayla never let it affect her confidence and considered herself beautiful anyway. Kayla entered and won beauty competitions, which helped her defy the traditional ideas of a blonde-haired blue-eyed beauty Queen.

The diagnosis of Alopecia came a couple years after the first patch of hair was gone. The doctors originally attributed her hair loss to a “tightly-pulled pony tail”.

Kayla’s Miss Delaware crown didn’t work out exactly right on her head—because the crown is usually affixed to the winner’s hair, she had to tie the crown on. Now she has a special crown made just for her so that she can participate in the Miss America pageant.

Kayla’s amazing attitude is reflected in her favorite quote by Mahatma Ghandi: You must be the change that you want to see in the world.

Although Kayla is definitely beautiful on the outside, her positive attitude and confidence should give younger women who are different the courage to accept themselves how they are and to be themselves. She claims that she knew early-on who her true friends were because they could accept her as she was. Others, including her sixth-grade boyfriend, were too insecure about seen with someone with no hair to accept her as she was.

The beauty pageant winner and Miss Delaware has been talking about alopecia to children and teens in her state. I’m guessing that her winning attitude and smile will help her in her quest to raise awareness about alopecia areata.

Take Care of Yourself!

Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you could possibly do for yourself in your lifetime. Right? Not only is taking care of yourself a very important thing, but will help you guide into different life situations on your own terms without “obeying” to anyone else. My parents have always told me to always take care of myself when I was a small girl to help me prepare for the big reality world…because honestly the “real world” can be a “happy” and “ dangerous” place too at the very same time. Don’t you agree?

Not everything is always “dandy” and “bright,” but at least if you know that “you” are the most important thing in life to walk, live, and breathe mother-nature earth is a pure sign you are heading into the right path in life. You never know where life will take you. Life is absolutely full of endless possibilities. And of course, opportunities. Wherever you are at in your life, enjoy, cherish, and most importantly….LOVE your life! If you do, you will appreciate and love your life even more. I am so dead serious.

I have seen many people in my lifetime that are completely miserable because of certain situations in their life that didn’t turn out the way they wanted it to be. For example, my sister is a great person. She is currently in school taking pre-requisites for the “nursing” program, has an amazing boyfriend, close friends, cares about our family A LOT, but the problem is….I don’t think she knows how to really take care of herself. My sister does worry about me a lot, but I have told her many times that I’m a grown woman and I can be able to take care of myself. Really…I don’t need anyone else taking care of me.

My sister will go far to an extent towards taking care of the most important things in her life that….she forgets herself sometimes. Now…that isn’t a good sign. Seriously. It is wonderful and great she has those amazing qualities, but I always try to tell her that “taking care” of herself will certainly help her out in life. Of course being 4 years apart can be a bit difficult with my sister sometimes because our personalities can “clash.” Not only do we both have very different personalities, but are completely different individuals.

I absolutely know how to take care of myself. It is very important for me that I do. Honestly, if I did not know how to take care of myself, I will certainly be disappointed. For example, every morning before school, I always make sure that I am drinking at least 2 cups of coffee a day, some cereal or yogurt, or even yummy toast. This helps me start my day. Then I take a look at my “to-do” list scheduled on my personal calendar on my cell phone making sure things will be completed throughout the day. I love to organize and schedule my life together. It helps me finish things on time along with getting them done as well. I love it. Without high-tech gadgets like cell phones for example…I don’t know how I would really survive. Since I am a busy woman too, I always try to make sure I put in some “pampering” time for myself such as going to the gym, getting my hair done, waxes, and at least “spoiling” myself a bit. It makes me feel good because I “work” hard…so I want to “play” hard too.

How do you take care of yourself?

Get DISCOUNTS at local Beauty Schools for “beauty” services!

I love to get pampered with “beauty” at the local salon. Not only do I love to look beautiful and sexy…but want to feel absolutely “wonderful” as well. And of course there comes to a cost for beauty….the “expenses.” Honestly, I believe being a “woman” is not very easy. It can be for some women out there, but I honestly think being “me” can be A LOT of extra hard work. Seriously. I don’t think many women would want to be in my “shoes.” Every woman is very “different” when it comes to creating who they are from their hair color, cut, curls, up-do, style, choice in lip-color, massage, and the list goes on…and on. Nothing wrong with that.

I think it is absolutely “amazing” and “wonderful” to be a woman…actually. Don’t you agree with me ladies? My close girlfriends would say the same thing too. I know that getting pampered with getting my hair color touched up, cut, scalp massages, up-dos, curls, manicure, pedicure, and of course, my eyebrows waxed is a huge “deal” for me. I must get these “beauty” services done…or either way I will not be a happy, satisfied woman. Seriously, I won’t be. Same thing with my caffeine every morning, if I don’t at least have a cup of coffee a day…I will go nuts. Like “Hyena Crazy.”

Then I was thinking one day…I do spend A LOT of money on beauty services along with products as well. I know that many local beauty schools including the Gene Juarez Academy and the Evergreen Beauty College provides beauty services to the public. What a sweet deal! Not only are you getting about the same benefits of being pampered and looking “oh-so-beautiful,” but you will walk out of the beauty school feeling very happy as well. I mean…of course the beauty school students are still being trained, but not yet licensed yet. They are though under the “supervision” of their instructors who will make sure they do a “fabulous” work on all their clients too. That’s always good to know.

For example, I remembered paying for a $50 haircut before in the past every 8-9 weeks for almost 2 years because I still had my “bob” cut. Realizing how expensive that can be, I decided to go to an accredited beauty school to get my hair done for A LOT cheaper, affordable, and of course, just about the same benefits as well. I went to the Gene Juarez Academy in the Northgate area of Seattle, and just paid for a $10 haircut! Sweet deal, isn’t it? It is actually much better then paying for a $50 haircut for sure. You can also get many other services done at the beauty school as well such as manicures, pedicures, waxes, hair color, highlights, scalp massages, and much more!

With the tough economy still underneath our feet…why not save yourself a trip to a very expensive, swanky salon and why not head to the nearest local neighborhood beauty school in town? This will save you money and not will you only be paying A LOT cheaper for your beauty services, but will be receiving the same BENEFITS as well.

Evergreen Beauty College

I love this school. It is called the Evergreen Beauty College. If you have not heard of this school yet, you should definitely check this accredited college out if you are interested in the field of cosmetology, esthetics, or even instructor training. I will start my first day of class bright and early tomorrow morning at the Evergreen Beauty College. Before it became the Evergreen Beauty College, it was once called Bellevue Beauty School.

Visiting the school for the very first time along with meeting the admissions director for a full tour of the entire school was well….worth my time. I live on the beautiful Eastside of WA State, and have always been very interested in a cosmetology program in the Northwest. I have looked and weighed out different types of options and potential, candidate schools that not only does it have to work for me, but I had to be very happy with my choice and selection in a good school as well. I did some research before making an appointment to meet with my admissions director towards setting up a time for paperwork and interview process before classes started. Boy….I was so excited and “pumped.”

Bellevue Beauty College was once owned by Linda Imhoff, along with her salon business partner Charlotte McBane. In 2008, Linda was deciding to retire after many years in the hair and beauty industry and searched long and wide to see who would be able to take over and manage her school. Both Linda and Charlotte knew of Evergreen Beauty and Barber College in Everett, WA. So they decided to have Bellevue Beauty School switched over to the amazing crew from the Evergreen Beauty and Barber College team. And I will tell you this…visiting the school for the very first time along with a tour of Evergreen Beauty College was absolutely beautiful! I had an amazing experience of my lifetime with my admissions director, Emma, who had answered all my questions and concerns in regards to the school.

Honestly, if you are very interested in a possible career field of cosmetology, esthetics, or instructor training, Evergreen Beauty College is the right school for you. I would highly recommend this school to anyone. I had a very good experience with my admissions director and met with the financial aid advisor along with a few of the wonderful staff members as well. Evergreen Beauty College totally blew my mind away and I was very HAPPY with my choice in selecting this school for my cosmetology program. I am so please and HAPPY that I did because a year from now….I will become a “Hair Stylist!”

So….what are you waiting for? For more information on Evergreen Beauty College, please click here.

Purses: Believe it or Not, They're All About the Hardware

I got the scoop on what makes a good purse the other day. Apparently, a good purse is all about the hardware.

You may not trust me, but if you knew the source of my top-secret insider purse information, you would definitely change your mind. Let’s just say she knows clothes, she knows hair, she knows purses, and she knows architecture.

I’m kind of an ignoramus when it comes to purses—a bit of a geek actually—I carry them for two reasons: to have a place for my book(s) and to have a place for my phone. I’m less likely to carry a purse in the winter because big pockets can easily hide a cell phone.

So, back to the purses.

According to my anonymous source, the hardware is the metal on the purse; this includes the clasps, the buckles, sometimes the straps, and any other designs on the purse. If you can’t afford (or have a strong aversion to) expensive, designer purses, take a look at the hardware on the nicer purses, purses and try to find a cheaper semi-knock-off purse to carry around.

Because for some reason I have yet to fathom, purses matter to some women for job interviews and things like that.

Women who eye purses like men eye boobs always notice this kind of sh*t and despite what you may think, the designer Coach bags are more popular in the burbs than in the big city. Again, according to my source, aka “The Purse Expert”,  there are tons of designers who make much cooler purses that won’t break the bank.

The leather (unless you are against the use of leather for clothes and/or bags) is also important. The softer the better. However, if you can’t afford the softest leather, my thinking is that it’s highly unlikely that some be-atch just waiting to judge you and your purse is going to touch your purse just to see if the leather is up to par. (At least I hope not. If you are in a bar, all bets are off on whether or not some strange chick will fondle your purse—there are a lot of weirdos out there.)

The size of the purse is up to you and what you need. Just remember a simple rule of thumb, the bigger the purse, the more shit you will pack around. It’s inevitable.

What do you think is the most important thing about a purse?

The Life of a “Multi-Tasker”

My life is extremely busy. Being a very BUSY woman and all may sound hectic and crazy, but honestly sometimes I really don’t know how to “slow” down, breathe, and take a relaxing moment to myself. Being diagnose with ADD (Attention-deficit disorder) in late 2009 has made me realize that being a “multi-tasker” is one of my ADD symptoms. I am not ashamed that I have ADD. I have had very sudden intuitive feelings when I was a small girl if I really had a high ADD level and fascinating “multi-tasking” skills as well.

Straight out of high school, I decided to work for awhile to hopefully figure out what kind of direction I wanted to experience and approach in my young adult life. Since I was only 18 years old at the time, I knew I had many opportunities to explore different parts of my life on my own terms. I am so happy I did. Because not only have I gone through numbers of different types of jobs (mainly customer-service related), but it has taught me the skills on how to learn towards talking to people, respecting others, along with my typing skills that were phenomenal, and sale skills were superb, etc.

I was very happy with myself that I could achieve a lot of my own personal goals and achievements that I had set for myself at a very young age. For some people, it will take them a long time to find out what they’re truly passionate about, and for others, it’s very quick. In my situation, I knew I wanted to work in a career that was meant for me to be able to “multi-task” on a daily basis in my life. And  boy….it did help me A LOT. Not only did I truly find out that I have a high ADD level and almost superb “multi-tasking” expert skills, but I always try to “perfect” each of my skills too.

I would consider myself a “perfectionist.” Many people I have met in my lifetime would tell me they would also consider themselves to be “perfectionists” as well. I know I am not a perfect person, but having things a certain way, organized, neat, tidy, and somewhat “perfect” to me is very important to me. I always want to make a very good “impression” on myself. Because if I don’t…I will “push” myself harder. And I mean…way harder. I have always been like that since I was a small girl. My mother would even tell me that too. It is nice that my own mother would see and “observe” me as her own child of my childhood actions, behavior, and personality. I thanked my mother for that.

Being at a place in my life as a huge “multi-tasker” is definitely “challenging.” I must admit…it is not very “easy” to be me. Honestly, if you were in my own “shoes,” you may probably not enjoy my lifestyle one bit. Truthfully, my daily life of being a “multi-tasker” has taught me to juggle everything in my life from school, work, romance, close friends, family, gym time, voice lessons, and other things in my life that I find dear and important to me a very “challenging” thing to do. But at the same time…I love my life as a “multi-tasker.”

My Brand-new “Plum” Color

So to start out fresh for the New Years, I decided to get my hair done for New Year’s Eve…just before the clock hit “midnight.” And so I made an appointment two days before to book a hair color since my hair needed some major “update.” It really did. I had my hair colored about 3 months ago with my hair stylist who is absolutely amazing….and gorgeous as well. Not only did I want to “tune” in fresh and “new” to ring in for the “New Years,” but wanted a fresh new, sexy look to add to my hair as well. And boy…I will tell you this. It paid off. Big time!

Since I have been seeing my hair stylist for almost 3 years now…my stylist’s, whose name is Phoebe…exactly “knows” what she is doing to my hair. I am extremely picky when it comes to a certain cut, color, or look for my hair. I mean….a girl’s gotta look great? Right? If you are a woman, you would totally understand where I am coming from. As I was driving down to my stylist’s salon, I remembered I left my hair color picture at home. I was bummed. But I knew my stylist had stacks of hair magazines I could get examples from. So that saved me a trip.

I wanted my hair stylist Phoebe to attempt this very sexy, sophisticated, but yet “classy” Kim Kardashian “plum” hair color. I wanted to try something new. And I have never had my own hair colored “plum” ever in my life. So this was going to be something completely “new” to me. I was anxious, but at the same time…very excited as well. As I was waiting in the salon lobby to get my hair done, I decided to flip through a few pages of some hair and fashion magazines to see if they had any “plum” looks. I absolutely found a very stunning, but yet sexy, and sophisticated look of Kim Kardashian’s new “plum” look she did for an advertisement campaign. Boy…did she look “smoking hot” in her brand-new “plum” color. I instantly fell in “love” with it.

As my stylist Phoebe mixed my hair color and started brushing the “plum” color all over my hair, I waited in my seat for about 25 minutes for the color to concentrate and seep right into my hair. The color process takes long because of the high ammonia and chemicals used in hair dye and color. The “plum” color actually smelled very good on my hair. I seriously thought it was going to smell “stinky.” As soon as my color was processed, I was directed to the shampoo bowl to wash, rinse, and condition. My favorite part.

My stylist was extremely pleased and happy with how the color came out. So was I. Not only did she color my hair into a rich, dark “plum” color, but gave me a complimentary “up-do” on my hair as well. She completely styled my hair making my nice soft, hair feeling smooth, sexy, and polished. She even “back-combed” some of my back hair parts to achieve a body volume and lift to my hair. I loved it. I paid for my hair color service and on my way out to see my wonderful man for the New Years. Not only did I pay for a wonderful service, but I was very satisfied with my brand-new “plum” color.

Are you “Amazing?”

Ask yourself this one simple, easy question…”Are you amazing?” If you answered a “hell yes,” you are definitely on the right track of feeling “amazing.” If you answered, “hell no,” then you seriously need to do a “background check” on yourself and really hopefully “fix” some things on yourself. Right?

I believe everyone goes through life experiences on what it truly means to be “amazing.” Don’t we? If you say no, that’s a complete lie. C’mon now people. What does “amazing” mean to you? I absolutely think that I am a wonderful, amazing woman. Not only do I feel amazingly wonderful, but have attracted many people to my personality. I am a very “non-judgmental” person and never ever want to criticized or judge someone base on who they are as an individual on the inside and out. I do consider myself as having a very “go-getter,” bubbly personality type, but have a hard time trusting certain people. The reason so is simply easy to explain. I have met many people in my lifetime that may think they are “better” or more “amazing” then I am. I believe that every individual is equally special in their own different way and no one should ever feel “above” anyone else. Doesn’t that sound right? Or makes any darn sense? I hope it does.

Being “amazing” can mean many different things. It can also be meaningful too. “Amazing” to me is just being yourself, boosting yourself some self-confidence, meeting new people, doing something special for somebody, pulling in extra hours at your work shift to earn extra money on a vacation for yourself, buying drinks for your closest friends, throwing a special birthday bash for your best friend, mentoring your little sister, cooking for your mom, and the list goes on…and on. Whatever your reasons may be….I am sure it will feel completely “amazing” and “special” to you. Feeling "free-spirited" can be "amazing" too.

Feeling “amazing” is a very good thing to have in your life. Don’t we all want to feel and be “amazing?” Hmm?? Whatever you feel in your life that is perfectly or almost “amazing,” you should live your life feeling that way. BECAUSE it is a very “special” thing to have in your system. To live through life feeling “amazing” is a key thing to have along with knowing your own personal qualities and characteristics as an individual. For some people, it will take them time to truly find out their “amazing” side. And for some people, it is a “piece of cake.” What is your “amazing” side?

“City” life vs. “Country” life: Which do you prefer?

I was born in the “country” side, but ever since moving here to the Seattle area when I was a very small girl…I fell in “love” with the “city” life. Why? I do love the country side, but I find the “city” life more suitable for my taste, style, wants, needs, and the city life just seems more positive and fun. Of course, a “con” of living in the city area can cause huge amounts of traffic, stress, over-crowded population of people, and be extremely “busy.” But that is part of what the “city” life has to offer. More so, the “country” life is quieter, reserved, peaceful, but I will give them “kudos” for displaying a magnificent, beautiful view of the whole “country” side part of town for its nature, wild-life, beauty, and “laid-back,” mellow lifestyle.

I prefer living in the “city” life versus the “country” life. The reason why I chose living in the “city” is because there are much more fun, and joyful things to do in the city. For example, you can hit the nearest coffee shops which could be at nearly every street corner, crash at a bar for a drink, stop in for a pastry at a nearby bakery shop, nearby shopping centers, clubs, and so much more! Not only does the “city” life offer more activities and fun things to do…but is also amazing to meet new people. I love meeting new people. It is always nice and great to meet other individuals that are completely different from you. I always enjoy learning about other people and their types of culture, influence, background, and etc. I did read somewhere awhile back in a magazine article about Seattle being the #3 on the “worse traffic” list. Say what?? Even though the “city” life may seem fun and all, we “metropolitan” city-life people do have to deal with one of the worse traffics in the nation. Right? I must admit…traffic in Seattle can get pretty bad.

Living in the “country” side may seem a bit different for some folks. What I love most about the country side is how spacious, beautiful, and peaceful it is. The capital of Washington State is Olympia. I absolutely love Olympia. I remembered when I was in the 4th grade that I took a short field trip to the State Capital of Olympia and took many photographs of the senate seat, entrance, hallways, etc. It was a beautiful view. I loved it. I would absolutely go back again. Not only did I have a very good experience on the other side part of town in Olympia, but my field trip class did explore other parts of beautiful Olympia as well. The population of Olympia is fairly smaller then the high number of people living in the Seattle area. But for some reason, the “country” side just seems more natural, showing parts of the nature, wild-life, beautiful animals such as deer’s, laid-back people, and just seems a lot more mellow, calm, and less stressful.

I am sure many people have their own taste, style, and personal choice in either preferring the “city” life or “country” life. Whatever you may choose, I hope it suits your lifestyle. But I prefer the “city” life over the “country” side because it is my personal choice and decision to live in the “city” because of my taste and style incorporated into my lifestyle. What do you prefer? And why?
