Would you want to be married or dating Russell Brand? Despite his fame, fortune, and wit, I’m not so sure that I would. The actor/comedian is often crossing the lines of what’s appropriate behavior—remember where he put a Barbie Doll during a recent performance? But his latest stunt is worse. He recently snapped a pic of his super-hot wife Katy Perry without make up and posted it online.
We’ve all had bad hair days, and days where we stayed at home in our pajamas without make-up, but that doesn’t mean that we want the entire world to see what we really look like when no one is watching. The picture he posted is horrible—it’s obvious that she was strongly protesting a picture being taken, that she was maybe sick, or that she was maybe about to sneeze. (I had a lovely photo-booth picture taken of me for a passport when I was deathly ill. I keep it to remind myself never to appear in public with a cold if I can help it at all.)
Of course, the argument on Russell’s behalf is that women should have the right to see what celebrities look like so that they aren’t making unnecessary comparisons to stars who have been made-up, photographed, and photo-shopped by a series of professionals. But shouldn’t that be Katy’s decision? Shouldn’t she have a right to choose which make-up(less) picture she should use, if any?
Seriously, her husband isn’t known for having tremendous amounts of common sense. (Not that most husbands are.) How would you feel if suddenly your brand-new husband (sorry for the bad pun, couldn’t resist) posted a picture like that of you for the world to see? I hear she’s getting ready to take his name—maybe she should seriously re-consider. What possible recourse does she have against the paparazzi when her own husband is the guilty party? (And what would she do if Russel posted nude pics of her? Especially since he’s already been proven to prefer showing her in an unflattering light.(
As this post observes, Katy is shown here in the picture with a furrowed brow and a couple of blemishes. I’m not objecting to the pimples or to the furrowed brow, but to the posting of the picture in general. Some girls freak when they are tagged on Facebook in an unflattering picture; this is a thousand times worse just because of the number of people who will see it.
